Over 40,000 of theses Armored Personnel Carrier ½ tracks were produced beginning in 1940 with the M2, later the M3 through 1943 by Autocar Company, Diamond T Motor Company and the White Motor Company. They all used the White 148 HP 386 Cubic Inch 6 cylinder. These were able to carry up to 12 soldiers a distance of 220 miles with out refueling all while protecting them from small arms fire as these had 6-12 MM of armor plating all the way around. Let me tell you….just lifting one half of the engine lid is a work out in itself. I have found only a few of these that have been listed over the last few years so to say that they are rare in running, restored order would be an understatement. They were no perfect by any stretch in the battlefield with the lack of overhead protection and some technology that was well, not well thought out. But they were useful for a lot of things and the engine was very reliable. This particular unit has been restored. A lot of it back to stock with the rear cargo area being fabricated by the consignor as finding parts is near impossible. Both tracks are new as well as all the bogey wheels. $150.00 each wheel and the tracks were $3,000 a piece. I will tell you what, this thing starts on a dime and idles down where you would expect a 6-cylinder beast to idyle. It goes through all the gears, it brakes nicely with a dual master set up. It has the desirable combat 2 piece rim as well as the roller in the front for running ditches. It has a decommissioned .50 caliber on a very rare tri-pod stand. This has been used in parades around the area for years and lovingly cared for. This rig weighs in at over 17,000 lbs and has a top speed of around 40 MPH. The engine runs like a watch.
