The Impala SS was a bonafide American muscle car. Its subtle sedan appearance didn't attract as much attention as the performance warranted. Separating the Impala SS from the standard Chevy Caprices were a lower and heavier duty suspension from the police spec Caprice, limited slip differential, larger brakes, and dual exhausts.
While it is easy to focus on the large motor and performance focused features, Chevrolet made comfort a priority on the Impala SS.
