Take a practical British design; mix in some Italian style; and the result is the Innocenti Mini. While the Mini is considered as British as afternoon tea, it was of course built at various locations across the globe. The Italian-built Mini benefited from a marriage of British functionality and Italian finesse. Innocenti began in 1931 as a manufacturer of steel tubing. During WWII, much of the factory was destroyed and after rebuilding, it became the famous Lambretta motor-scooter company. A logical step was to manufacture automotive parts, and Innocenti was soon making them for Italy's big three: Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia.
Innocenti Minis were built in Milan, Italy between 1965 and 1976 while export models were built from 1973 to 1975. This 1972 model is one of the most original Innocenti's on the planet! The challenge with Innocenti's is that very few made it to North America. Most of the ones that did were either driven into the ground or simply rusted away. Finding a clean and low mileage original car is next to impossible. With just over 26,000 original miles, this numbers matching time capsule captures the essence of rarity. It is painted Castoro 72 (Beaver Brown) with Bianco Avorio (Ivory White) top. It is equipped with a 998cc 4 cylinder engine, a 4-Speed Manual, a pioneer 2-speaker audio system, and sand leatherette seating. This has a clean and clear Michigan title and was part of a museum collection.
This example spent the better part of the last decade in Southern California and based on the original and dry condition of the car, it clearly was never abused or driven in bad weather. The body is straight with a recent repaint in its original color combination. The interior is all original. The vinyl seats show minimal wear. The dash is straight with no cracks. It even has its original rubber “Innocenti” floors mats in excellent condition. Everything works properly and the car drives very tight. This Innocenti is also equipped with the ultra rare and original Italian bolster steering wheel lock system installed when the car was new.
