1978 Mercedes-Benz 300SD

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel for purchase. The W116 series of flagship vehicles were produced from 1972-1980, and became legendary for their durability and quality. The 300SD was only built from 1978-1980 and exclusively for the U.S. and Canadian markets. With only 28,634 examples built, these 300SD are quite rare vehicles and came standard with the legendary W116.120 3.0L inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine. The indestructible turbo charged diesel coupled with the high build quality, limited production, and classic luxury styling make the 300SD highly collectible and sought after with many of them still on the road today.

This 300SD is in pretty good condition cosmetically considering it has motored on for over 208,000 miles and 38,000 of those miles were received over the last 18 years according to maintenance documentation. Mechanically it is in very good condition given the durability and toughness of the turbo diesel drivetrain. Per the documentation, it is speculated that this is a 3-owner car with the 2nd ownership starting around 1985 and ending in 1998 when the 3rd and current owner purchased it. Also from the documentation, it has been a Michigan car since at least 1985 and it does not show very many signs of winter use. The sale includes a mountain of documentation for regular maintenance and upkeep indicating this car was well taken care of. Vintage diesel Mercedes-Benz's are gaining a lot of traction in the market as they make cool retro daily drivers and achieve phenomenal gas mileage while maintaining a high degree of reliability.
