International Harvester developed the Scout as a precursor of more sophisticated SUV's to come. The only other 4-wheel drive recreational vehicles offered at the time were Jeeps. The Scouts became known for their ability to go anywhere and have high durability. They are a key part of automotive history being considered the first SUV. The Scout 800 was the replacement for the 80, it came with upgraded heating system and bucket seats.
The 1967 International Scout 800 offered here is an outstanding example of one of the nicest ones out there. This line ticket stamped beauty recently just finished up an extensive “nut and bolt”, frame off restoration. The frame and body are both original to the truck. When the body was lifted off the chassis, the frame and springs were all sandblasted and painted and then the painted body was placed back on. The body was freshly sprayed with a new coat of Turquoise paint with a white top and shows very well. The chrome accents are in remarkable condition as well. Mounted on the white steel wheels are brand new 31x10.5x15 Cooper Discovery STT tires. Inside the truck is impressive and reflects a very tedious restoration with new carpet, headliner and fresh seats. The gauges work as well as all of the lights, headlights, tail lights, high and low beams, brake lights and reverse lights and interior dash light are all in working order. The horn and wipers, and radio even work. There are new rubber seals in the doors and where the top meets the body. 1967 was the first year that the 266v8 was offered in production from International Harvester. The engine area is beautiful as the 266 v8 has been painted and gone through. The three speed manual transmission functions as it should as well. No receipts are on file for the work done but it is quite obvious that it was done well. With the Scout on the rise in popularity and value, this is truly a must for any collector or enthusiast. To see over 80 photos of this car, including under carriage please visit our website www.grautogallery.com
