Mercedes has been in the diesel market since many decades and they have proven to be a very dependable, reliable and simple engine to work on and to maintain. For the 1983 model year, Mercedes made a significant aesthetic alteration, using rectangular headlamps instead of the round ones seen in previous model years. The 1983 240D was an entry-level sedan in Mercedes' W123 model line. The popular saloon was a four-door sedan that had front bucket, rear bench seating for five passengers and a 110-inch wheelbase. In 1983, the company continued to sell a 135-inch long-wheelbase variant of the 240D, which it first marketed in 1977. The elongated wheelbase sedan featured an extra row of rear bench seats for up to seven passengers and found use as taxicabs and limousines. The 1983 240D lineup also included a four-door hatchback station wagon. This wagon shared the same wheelbase as the sedan and had a 60-40 folding rear seat for up to five passengers. With the seat up, it offered 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space; with the seat folded down, this wagon provided 31 cubic feet of cargo room.

This very nice 240D is a true time capsule that shows very little use or abuse and has received routine maintenance as well as been cared for with proper storage and meticulous records kept. Sold new in September of 1983 from Thoroughbred Car Company in Colorado Springs CO to Mr. & Mrs. Geffre. According to our records on file and the large amount of documentation that follows this car it is evident that this was not just a daily driver but a car that was enjoyed and properly maintained. The impressive 2.4L diesel provided 71HP but a highway MPG of 28 that was incredibly impressive in the mid 80's. Vehicle has a long list of standard features such as; cruise control, power locks, full independent suspension, heated rear window, bucket seats, four wheel disc brakes and much more.
