1972 was the final year Oldsmobile offered the Cutlass Supreme as a convertible, and the car went out on top. In its last year of production it became the best-selling convertible in America, moving 11,571 units and outselling both the Corvette and the Cadillac Eldorado. It was a remarkable send-off for a body style that had defined the Cutlass lineup, and it made the 1972 Supreme convertible instantly significant the moment the doors closed on production. This one is finished in white with a black power convertible top and black leather interior, a clean and classic combination that suits the long, flowing lines of the Supreme body perfectly.

Under the hood is the 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a three speed automatic. The Oldsmobile 350 was known as a strong, torquey engine with good low-end pull and the kind of durability that kept these cars on the road for decades. It moves this car with the easy, unhurried authority that makes a cruiser like this genuinely enjoyable to drive on a warm afternoon with the top down and nowhere particular to be.

Inside, the black leather interior is finished with wood trim throughout the cabin, giving the Supreme the upscale character that separated it from the standard Cutlass lineup. A set of 9000 series aftermarket speakers rounds out an interior that is clean, comfortable, and ready to be enjoyed.

The same year this car was built, a Hurst/Olds convertible based on the Cutlass Supreme body served as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500, a detail that puts 1972 in sharp focus as a significant year for this body style. Only 130 Hurst/Olds convertibles were ever produced that year, and the standard Supreme convertible they were based on is itself a car with a fixed and final production number that will never change. Finding one in white over black in this condition is not something that happens every day.
