Chevrolet introduced the Impala in 1958. The car was designated to be the top of the line Bel Air Series Coupes and Convertibles. The design was quite different from the “tri-five” cars as the sharp tail fins were gave way to deeply sculpted rear fenders. The standard perimeter frame was replaced with an elongated “X” style frame construction which offered increased torsional rigidity. Chevrolet also introduced a new Big Block 348 Cubic inch motor which debuted in the Impala which was available with a new tri-power carburetor and intake system and produced 315 horsepower. “Longer, Lower, and Wider” was how Chevrolet touted its new Impala, a name plate that would be used by Chevrolet for over 50 years.
The 1958 Chevrolet Impala 2 Door Coupe offered here hails from the desert southwest and features an older ground up style restoration. It is finished in its original Snowcrest White over Multi-Color red interior. It is equipped with its 348 3X2 BBL Turbo-fire V8, Dual Exhaust with Chrome Tips, Chrome Valve Covers, Chrome Air Cleaners, Right and Left Outside Mirrors, Shaded-Tinted Windshield, Heater, Clock, Seat Belts, Deluxe Spinner Wheel Covers and 2 Speed Wipers. The body is excellent, straight, solid New Mexico car, the frame and floors appear very clean and solid. The chrome and trim are remain very nice and appear to have been re-plated and the weather-strips are very good as well. The interior features correct OEM style trim and remains in excellent condition and an upgraded stereo has been placed in the radio opening. Mechanically the under-hood area is clean and well detailed, runs and drives excellent and can be driven with confidence. It all rides on stock rims with Deluxe Tri-bar Spinner Wheel Covers, spare tire and jack are in the trunk. Overall this is a very solid and straight car with an older restoration that has been maintained in very clean usable condition, the numbers and date codes appear to be correct on the major components and the miles are believed to be original. Cars from the southwest United States are desirable for their rust free bodies, especially true for the one year only body style of the 1958 Impala. Another opportunity offered by GR Auto Gallery.
