Mated to the power plant is an automatic transmission that shifts strong and smooth. Introduced during a fuel crisis, the Pontiac engineers focused on advanced aerodynamics as well as weight savings so that the reduced engine outputs would still provide excellent performance compared to the 3rd generation.

Externally the car wears a striking coat of black paint and features new Firebird decals. Inside, two-tone black and cloth seats can be found with minimal signs of wear.
