Unveiled at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, the second generation SL was Mercedes replacement for the legendary 300SL “gullwing” and 190SL models. All models were equipped with an inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The hood, trunk lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. The comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes and radial tires gave the W 113 superb handling for its time. Offered with a unique factory hardtop that had thin pillars and a tall greenhouse, the second generation was given the nickname “Pagoda”, a name that has stuck ever since.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this wonderfully original 1966 230SL for your consideration. Finished in a lovely understated state of Graphite Grey over a light tan interior, this car also features a tan convertible top and matching parchment factory hardtop. The exterior of this car is very charming and features wonderful chrome trim and small ornate details such as the chrome factory hubcaps with Michelin tires. The paint quality is very nice, with subtle wear and a fey small imperfections. Overall it is very presentable and appears to be original. The interior of the car shows very well, with excellent seats, wonderfully original dashboard with metal trim, original Becker radio, factory climate control, and a nice white classic style steering wheel. The interior has a crack free dashboard with wonderful patina and the build quality and attention to detail is absolutely wonderful. Everything is extremely well put together and really speaks to Mercedes's build quality.

Under the hood sits a 2.3L straight 6 engine that produces 150hp and is mated to a very smooth and advanced 4 speed automatic transmission. The engine bay of this example is particularly clean and even features touches such as a leather covered firewall and very art deco look to the fuel lines. The owner says that only original Mercedes parts have been used and it looks very clean for sure. Being a top of the line vehicle from a prestigious manufacture, this car is even equipped with four wheel power disc brakes, power steering which were very advanced for the time. Having been purchased by the current owner in 2000, this example has been very well kept and has tons of service records. In addition, this car also comes with the original owners manual, service records, and factory tool kit.
