1970 Avanti II

The Avanti is an American performance sports coupe based on the Studebaker Avanti and marketed through a succession of five different ownership arrangements subsequent to Studebaker's discontinuation of the model. After the closure of Studebaker's South Bend factory on December 20, 1963, cars carrying the Avanti nameplate were initially produced from left-over Studebaker components and later, by the Avanti Motor Company from General Motors and Ford chassis and engines. After Studebaker ended production at South Bend, the "Avanti" model name, tooling, Studebaker truck production rights and parts and plant space were bought by local Studebaker dealers, Nate and Arnold Altman and Leo Newman, who incorporated as Avanti Motor Corporation and hand-built a small number of cars.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this rare and beautiful 1970 Avanti II. Starting with the exterior the body looks and has held up extremely well and for a car of its age, the fiberglass has only minimal flaws with according to the owner nothing has been replaced. The Bright Blue paint definitely stands out and is extremely eye catching, the interior with Blue cloth and dawn vinyl interior is still comfortable but could use just a few fix ups and while the instrumentation appears to be original and there are a few things that need attention. The engine is the small block 350ci V8 that with an upgraded 700 R4 automatic 4-speed transmission, also upgraded and added are Hooker headers, stainless steel exhaust, and Flowmaster mufflers. In recent years brake lines have been replaced as well as the hog troughs that the Avanti's were known for have been replaced. This car is truly a blast from the past and is definitely not something you would see every day, but fires up and runs for this unique car with all the pride from the Mid-West!
