1979 Cadillac Le Cabriolet

Cadillac first came out with the de Ville as a trim level on their 1949 Series 62 Coupe but later turned this nametag into a model all in of its own. The 2005 Cadillac DeVille was the final model to be named as such and was renamed the DTS which stands for Deville Touring Sedan. Although many different shapes and sizes of Cadillacs hosted this name, it was always a prestige trim level or model within their lineup. In 1977, Cadillac had hit its 75th anniversary and saw its first introduction of the downsized De Ville coupes and sedans. Now over nine inches shorter and even four inches narrower, the new design was over a half tone lighter but with larger trunk , head and leg room than before. This also brought a change of marketing ploy as Cadillac has yet to build a convertible from the factory since thee 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. This change brought many to try and crack into the aftermarket opportunity of convertible top installations. Few were successful and, those who were able to do so, found the upfit to cost more than the sticker of the actual vehicles making this an even more rare option found.

This extraordinary example of the 1979 Cadillac Deville “La Cabriolet” is a one-owner, Hess & Eisenhardt Company convertible installation completed and sold as a package from Audette Cadillac in West Bloomfield, MI and has a great deal of documentation to back it! With an original window sticker provided to us, we find that the package was sold with a “Convertible customization” package completed by the most respected convertible companies of their time. This model also shows to have most every upgrade available at the time such as the premium leather group, premium AM/FM/Cassette with digital display and Citizens band audio system, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control and even the electric powered outside mirrors which include the illuminated thermometer on left hand mirror! With a great deal of life left, the odometer has rolled over but we are told it is only at a true 112,826 miles today and the many receipts of maintenance and repair work completed goes to show the care this vehicle was shown through its life. A very unique and well completed re-paint in 1996 was completed and we are told that the custom paint incudes a fire engine red and a blue pearl overtop which really shines and changes color depending on angle and lighting.
Included in the sale of this fine ride are all the original receipts from the convertible top installation, brochure, window sticker, even a set of windows for this model were purchased but never needed and come packaged for the next owner just in case!
