1951 Oldsmobile 88 Rocket

Post WWII was a very exciting time for everyone including the Automotive world. For 1949, Oldsmobiles futuramic wide-line body style was Oldsmobiles first Post WWII design, with the flow-through fenders and crowned high-set headlights. And of course, the biggest news was the introduction of the new “Rocket” OHV V-8 engine which displaced 303 cid and developed 135 HP….Does not seem like a lot today but V8 technology and power was still quite new here in the US . The result was absolutely thirilling with a 0-60 time of 12.2 seconds and a sub 20 second quarter miles. This particular absolutely wonderful example that I am so pleased to present here in our Traverse City location comes out of long term ownership and excellent storage. This is one of my favorite cars in inventory right now. You do not get to see many of these early V8 coupes that have not been all hacked up by back yard builders. I believe this car to be mostly original with the exception of a carpet kit and possibly a re-paint?? The paint is Laquer so if it was re-painted it was a long time ago. I am still not convinced that this is not original paint as it has some thinning, swirling and some slight fading which is characteristic of original black paint. Nevertheless, this is a rust rot free car with only some slight surface rust on the underside of the car. The trim work and chrome are in great condition as are the door and window seals. The doors open and shut perfectly with no sag, the floor pans are great as are the rest of the details of the cosmetics. Mechanically I think this thing great, I have personally driven this car about 200 miles and man, besides needing new tires and possibly some tightening down of the front suspension, this car drives beautifully. Strait, quiet, no rattles or smoke…..This is just a really nice car. If you are looking to get in to a early Post War Classic that has not been molested that with very little time and money could make for a very good investment, club driver or cruiser. I encourage all questions and inspections if necessary.
