1969 Volkswagen Bus Sportsmobile

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this very neat and tidy 1969 VW Bus – Sportsmobile Conversion. The VW has had the same owner since 1994 and has been loved ever since. The multi-year restoration was completed 8 years and 6,000 miles ago and as you can see in the photos it was done right. The Bus was stripped, new metal welded in where needed, everything was sealed and coated and then given multiple layers of base/clear PPG paint. When putting the Bus back together the owner strived to use only NOS German parts. All new West Coast Metric and Wolfsburg West seals for windows, doors and trim were installed.

You will see that the original Sportsmobile interior was restored with all new panels cut from Baltic birch and given new front seat covers as well. The mechanical restoration included completely rebuilding the stock 1500cc motor to stock specs except for adding new counter weighted crank and electronic ignition for smoothness and reliability. All tin was powder coated. The axles were rebuilt with Rockford boots, all new wheel bearings in the front and the back, new clutch, rebuilt generator, starter, carburetor and distributor.

The front beam was rebuilt with adjusters added. The front and rear can be lowered several inches if desired, currently the bus is near its highest ride height. The Bus was given new power Wilwood disc brakes in the front, completely rebuilt back brakes, all new lines and hoses and master cylinder. The Bus also has new tie rod assemblies, drag link, KYB shocks, bushings and steering stabilizer. All within the last 1,000 miles it has had adjusted valves, oil change, NGK plugs, Bosch cap and rotor, new fuel lines and filter.

The Sportsmobile comes with an awning, working factory radio, front mounted spare tire, correct wheels and tires and more. As you can see this Bus stands high above many other out there on the market.
