They’re always available and always up for the task. The automotive community is no stranger to the good ‘ol U-Haul car trailer. Whether you’re looking to pick up a project car from a town over or you’re looking to bring your classic across the country to your new home, they’re going to do the job with minimal complaints.
For those of us without our own car trailers but have vehicles that are capable of towing, the U-Haul car trailer is a great piece of equipment to have access to and there’s good news in store for this beloved piece of equipment!
Coming in 2025 is a new, re-designed, trailer coming to the U-Haul fleet. Coming in at just over 23 feet long, 8.5 feet wide, and with a usable deck length of 16 feet, the U-Haul Toy Hauler is definitely something for us enthusiasts to get excited about.
U-Haul announced the new trailer in an effort to complement the existing fleet of rental products U-Haul currently offers. The new trailer aims to support track day enthusiasts in transporting their vehicles to and from the track, filling a gap in the current market.
The current trailer, aptly named the Auto Transport, is quite idiot proof but that led to some shortfalls in its design that the new Toy Hauler aims to make up for. With the existing Auto Transport, there are two loading ramps that lead to a two-track style trailer. Additionally, the fenders for the trailer are not drive over, but rather fold down should you have difficulty entering or exiting the vehicle. This design is perfect for those looking for a fool-proof manner in which to transport a car, but what about unique vehicles, motorcycles, spare parts, or a Morgan 3 Wheeler?
With three loading ramps, drive over fenders, and more tie-down locations than I can count, the possibilities are nearly endless. Think, now you can load up your Miata and head to the track with spare tires securely in tow.
In addition to a larger deck and other upgrades, the trailer itself has a higher load capacity than the existing Auto Transport. An increase of roughly 28.5% means the new Toy Hauler has a 6,800lb load capacity. You could technically haul a dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck if the deck were just a few feet longer.
U-Haul announced that trailer production is set to begin in the beginning of 2025. We’re excited to see what people use these new U-Haul Toy Haulers for!
