GR Auto Gallery is thrilled to welcome this, 5 owner, well kept, fully documented, 1963 Porsche 356 T-6 Coupe as part of our summer 2017 inventory.
During the 1950's the Porsche 356 had become well respected by motoring enthusiasts for its exceptional aerodynamics and handling as well as exceptional build quality. It was common for owners to race 356's on the weekends and use them as everyday drivers during the week. The 356 was compact, stylish in design, yet relatively simple; most of all, the 356 was a quick and nimble driver that put smiles of the faces of whoever had the opportunity to drive. For model year 1960, Porsche introduced the 356B T-5 body which proved to enhance the already stellar reputation that Porsche had built. Improvements were focused on handling, ride and refinement. Visual changes included a higher nose, headlights angled to bend with the contour of the raised front fenders and higher bumpers – not all of which were universally acclaimed as improvements. The Aesthetic concerns were largely remedied with T-6 body introduced in 1962. The T-6 would be the last body style of the 356 and provided a redesigned hood where the front lip was “squared off” to a degree, larger front and rear windows, modified roofline, and fresh air intake at the base of the windscreen. An external fuel filler was also added to the top of the right fender and the rear deck lid was enlarged with two intake grilles as apposed to one. The T-6 encompasses years of subtle refinement of one of the worlds most respected automobiles.
The 1963 Porsche 356 B T-6 Coupe offered here rolled out of the Porsche Factory on January 16, 1963 and was delivered to its first registered owner by Morgenson Motors of Phoenix, Arizona on October 24, 1963. According to the massive amounts of service records and documents that accompany this 356, it appears that the car has had a total of 5 responsible owners with the car being located in the desert southwest until 1996. The car carries an impressive service history with the service book dating back to when it was delivered new and service receipts dating back to the 1980's. Records indicate that the car was treated to a targeted restoration in 1992 and approximately 70000 miles showing on the odometer in which the car was repainted, the interior was addressed and the mechanicals all rebuilt. Since, the car has been well kept, maintained and enjoyed for an additional 12000 miles by the last two owner enthusiasts. As a result, today, the car is a proven driver, retains its original factory body panels, original floors, pans, rockers etc. The car also still retains its original numbers matching engine and transmission and was restored in its original factory color, Ruby Red. The exterior body features excellent fit and the paint, now 25 years old, shows very nice with expected patina, the interior remains in wonderful overall condition and features an upgraded radio and auxiliary temp and oil pressure gauges, the engine and engine area remains very tidy sporting the typical upgrades including: Webber Carbs, blue ignition coil and inline fuel filter. The underside of the car remains unrestored and original and shows an excellent core structure including inner rockers, jack points, tow hook and longitudinals. Our short test drive turned into a long test drive as the car offers up pure motoring enjoyment to the driver. The car is very well behaved in all driving situations, idles great in traffic, pulls strong through all the gears and travels very well at flat out highway speeds.
The Porsche 356, although not extremely rare, has huge global demand and values continue to rise. They have reached icon status while remaining very driver friendly and usable. When it comes to investing in collectable cars, owner history and documentation matter. The car offered here, while not freshly restored, is a great, numbers matching, extremely honest, fully documented example that can be driven and enjoyed anywhere. Documentation includes: 2 Porsche Certificates of Authenticity, Original Service Book with Selling Dealer information and original owner information, Prior 356 Registry Membership, Complete Owner History, a mountain of service receipts and parts receipts, an overview of what was done during mechanical restoration, etc.
